The SUN Cellular of DIGITEL discriminates Visayan and Mindanao?..

I just remember around last quarter of 2006 or early 2007 when I applied as a “Treasury Staff” of DIGITEL SUN Cellular for Ortigas Assignment and got discriminated by them.

I remembered that they have so many applicants for different position and we took and exam but only few of us are left and passed the examination. I have passed the First interview and then second interview; for the final interview we are only two left, and they need three.

In this situation, I consider I almost “hired”. The final interview is with their Finance Manager which supposed to be my boss. As being said by the second interviewer; “congratulations” you were for final interview and don’t worry final interview is about an orientation for your job assignment and acquaintance with the Finance Manager as formality, so I am happy.

Their Finance Manager is young, around late 20’s or early 30’s. He/she (I need not to state the gender) is simple, look so kind, but deep inside of him/her is like a boiling mud and “LAVA” of Mayon Volcano. She/he didn’t sounds so intelligent, didn’t sound smart, but nice at first. She/he acquainted with me and we are talking anything under the sun. We also talked about my job assignment and the company policies. When our conversation about to finished he/she scan again my resume and ask, you graduated in this University? So where is that really located? I said ***** City. And she/he ask where is that city located, I mean the Famous Landmarks, or any known the nearest place? I said Cagayan De Oro City. And he/she replied ah! You were from Mindanao? Your are Visaya? I said yes. He/she look at me and become silence. Then said, okay I will just call you if I will really hire you. Then it’s the end of our talk.

Because of knowing that I am a VISAYA and I am from Mindanao, the opportunity for me was lost like a smoke and just passed away. It is a simple, clear and so hurting discrimination that because I am a VISAYA, I came from Mindanao; I have no rights or last priority for any opportunity. Do you think DIGITEL and SUN Cellular is fair? Do you think it’s not a discrimination of my origin? Anyway, I could not blame them because Mindanao is really a third class citizen for them. And they never think of that most of the user and subscriber of DIGITEL Sun Cellular is from Visayas and Mindanao.
